FIlm Research - Diegetic sounds

Diegetic sounds are a crucial part of horror films, and need to be placed in the right places to be used to maximum effect.
Common sounds used in horror films include:
  • Screams
  • Door slams
  • Heavy Breathing
  • Shouts
  • Crying
  • Loud Heartbeat

These sounds can be used in a veriety of ways, either as part of the running action, or as a sound heard in the distance, creating an air of mystery into what has happened. These sounds that are heard from far away require editing, whereas the sounds for the actions in the scene can just be placed in exactly as they are recorded.
